I have one dollhouse but I enjoy making room boxes the most. I have done many sizes and even built a room in a pumpkin.
The MAN CAVE is the garage kit in the 2010 Spring Fling contest at Greenleaf. I built my Beach House (see below) and my husband wanted to know where his room was so our son, Will and I worked on the Man Cave for his early Father's Day present.
Will did the studs on the walls and the great cement floor. His attention to detail includes the breaker box by the pool table and all the conduits. He even made the hot water heater. Sorry to say it is not in place yet.
The BEACH HOUSE is my little home away from home. This is how I imagine my "quiet place" where I can get away from everything and just be. You will see how much I really like cats when you visit my little beach house, at present count there are 11 cats sleeping, playing and getting into trouble. Even in miniature I can't get away from building doll's houses. There is a work in progress on the crafting table.
this is the south wall. I have used a lot of lighthouses in my decorating. Even the lamps are lighthouses. The painting on the left is an origional oil the one on the righ is a print. There are also 4 of them on the mantle with Yum Yum.
looking out to the west it is sunset. I have a lovely view of the lighthouse up the coast. In my yard you see the rocks and a little fisherman. I enjoy watching the surf from here and even feed the gulls now and then. I see one is looking for a late night snack. I am careful to keep the sunscreen handy. you can see it to the left of the door on the seahorse shelf. My butler is ready to catch my wet towel, or warm coat.
At the center of my Beach house is the great big chair. There is Patches sleeping on the blanket in my big chair. I love to curl up here and read the latest miniature magazine. A martini and a bowl of chips make it a purrrfect evening with the cats.
Here is a closer look at my side table. What more could a girl need? Martini, chips, remote control, my Dolls House World magazine and my reading glasses. (hint: the chips are dried seeds from a bell pepper)
I found this funky trike table at a little shop in the small beach town near my house. I use the basket for all my favorite books and the foldout dollhouse book that my friend Rick made just fits on the seat. You can see the light house floor lamp to the right. I had to put it on a stack of books so I can use it to read when I am curled up in my favorite chair.
The little gray kitten is Piwacket (Bell, Book and Candle) He is rubbing on my end table and had better not spill anything. Here, too, you can see the detail in the base of my lighthouse floor lamp. The table lamp on my work table matches.
The sweet Siamese on the fireplace mantle is Yum Yum. She is named for the sweet cat in the Cat Who... books. She is a little lady and above chasing the mice like the rambunctious boys on the floor below her.
Look close and you will see that Scamp and Strip have cornered a mouse in the wood pile. Good kitties now take it out side to play with it.
Things are never dull with Trouble in the house. He has to know what is in every cabnet and drawer. Here I caught him checking out the TV. I don't know how he manages to get into everything and still not knock the ships off the top of the credenza.
"Tippy, Phone home!" I wonder it it was Tippy or Trouble that knocked the phone off the hook. Who ever, Tippy sure is having fun with the receiver. Is he trying to ask the operator for help?
Looks like Little Sugar cat might need a bath the way she is is scratching that ear itch. She will have to move off my work chair when I get back to work on the doll house kit that is half finished on my work table.
Here is my work space. I am working on a little one room house. With the binoculars on the left and the Tender Vittles on the right it is a little crowded but it is good for me. I painted the little man on the shelf above.
This is Skat hiding under the work bench. It is hard to get a good photo of him because he is a scardy kat. He is trying to blend in with my black rubber boots. I see he has knocked one over rubbing his jaw on it. a seagull out side has caught his attention through the French doors
They say "curiosity killed the cat" and it just might with Mister. I thought Trouble was bad but Mister is a pick pocket. He is digging in my new designer purse that I left on the hall tree. Patches seems to be his partner in crime or maybe his apprentice.
I will try not to be so long winded about my other projects.
Here is a house I built for a customer to give to her grand-daughter. This is starting the frame of the house I have the roof in place to keep the side walls straight.
She asked for a cream and black color pallet. I was not sure but it really looks great. Don't you agree?
Here is the carpet and kitchen floor being put in. I found an apolstery fabric that had blues and browns in it bo pick up the blue carpet and brown base-board. The kitchen floor is contact paper.
